Welcome to the Aerospace Design & Engineering Blog!

Updated: Mar 2, 2023

Welcome to CrossCheck’s “Aerospace Design & Engineering” Blogpost, and thanks for choosing to check us out! Our purpose in creating this Blog is to stimulate discussion on topics relating to the design and engineering of modern air vehicles, especially newer aircraft such as tilt-rotors, electrically-powered air vehicles, and hypersonic aircraft. Our company exists to advance the state-of-the-art in aerospace design, engineering, performance, and testing, and our “Aerospace Design & Engineering” Blogpost is one way of sharing what we’ve learned with other aviation aficionados. Whether you work in the aviation field or just have an interest in things that fly, this Blog’s for you!

In all our posts, we strive to informally communicate our company’s essence and raison d’ệtre to other aviation buffs. We are passionate about anything involving flight and desire to share our enthusiasm of aviation with others. Our idea of a fun weekend is a local airshow or military open house. Our dream vacation is a trip to Oshkosh for EAA’s annual Air-Venture Fly-In. And we’ll readily pass on Reno, Nevada’s casinos in favor of attending the annual Reno air races. If you’re as big an aviation fan as we are, we hope you’ll find our blogposts interesting and worth following. Please also explore CrossCheck’s other three categories of Blogposts: Flight Testing Techniques, Flight Sciences, and Flight Safety.

My name is Travis Dyer, and I’m the founder, owner and President of CrossCheck Flight Test Services, LLC. While I’ll be the primary author of CrossCheck’s blog posts, I’ll occasionally bring in a pinch writer to mix things up. I’m a licensed private pilot and have been working in the aerospace engineering field for over 20 years. A graduate of Arizona State University in 2002 with a B.S.E. in Aerospace Engineering, my experience includes: airplane, helicopter & tiltrotor maintenance; aircraft major repairs & alterations; aerospace structural and dynamic loads analysis; computational fluid dynamics; safety & hazard assessment and risk mitigation; and of course, many years of aerospace ground and flight testing. I’ve performed engineering and ground/flight testing work for Able Aerospace, BAE Systems—Flight Systems, Raytheon Missile Systems, Bell Helicopter-Textron and Boeing, and am an active member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers (SFTE) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Having served many leadership roles in my career, I founded CrossCheck Flight Test Services in 2017 to leverage my knowledge and experience to help address a common challenge for every aerospace test program—how to execute the safest, most efficient, and comprehensive testing possible on a budget that never seems big enough. This basic problem is magnified for private owner-operators who lack the resources of large companies. Add to that the challenge of wading through the Federal Aviation Regulations to ensure legal compliance when modifying your personal aircraft, and the value of a trusted expert resource becomes evident. CrossCheck’s VISION is to be the clear “go-to partner” for general aviation owners and operators seeking innovative, safe, and capable improvements to their aerospace vehicles, be they airplanes, helicopters, ultralights or experimentals. Our company’s MISSION is to be the premier private aircraft testing and development organization in the general aviation marketplace. As our company motto claims, we promise our customers "Peerless Excellence in Aerospace Flight Testing”.

CrossCheck provides safe and creative solutions to aircraft owner-operators seeking to:

  • Expand their aircraft’s utility, performance, economy, and/or profitability via Major Alterations or STCs (Part 23 airplanes and Part 27 rotorcraft).

  • Modify and test their legacy-certified or uncertified Light Sport Aircraft (LSA)

  • Modify and test their Part 103 Ultralight aircraft.

  • Design and test an Experimental-class air vehicle.

We also help amateur aircraft builders plan, conduct, and document initial flight testing of their brand-new homebuilt or experimental air vehicle. Our business niche is General Aviation, a market often overlooked by the larger flight test organizations.

As a smaller and more agile start-up, we’re far more responsive to private owner-operators and sport pilots than the bigger market players. In addition, our much lower overhead costs enable us to provide our services at a substantially lower price point than our competitors. Furthermore, there is no need for you to bring your aircraft to us—we perform our services at your home airport, bringing all the necessary tools, equipment, and instrumentation with us.

This page contains our Flight Test Forum—which features the collective wisdom of numerous flight-testing practitioners and experts on a wide variety of aerospace topics—and also includes our Online Store, which offers for sale a large collection of digital documents, tools, calculators and checklists that many aviation & aerospace professionals find useful. Also available at our Online Store are several webcasts and online-learning courses. In addition, we encourage you to follow us at any of the social media site links located in the page footers of this website.

Please explore the rest of our website, especially our Services pages. These pages detail the many types of aerospace services CrossCheck provides beyond just flight-testing. These include aviation speaking services for your aviation-themed event, educational seminars on aerospace topics, and aerospace general consultation and research services. Thanks again for your interest in CrossCheck Flight Test Services, LLC!
